I absolutely love foobar2000 as a music player. My config is obviously inspired by iTunes, but with a couple of changes here and there to suit my personal tastes.

(A screenshot of my components is included in the mix)

The other screenies show my player under different states - play, pause, pretty popup, & the way album covers, lyrics, and biographies were implemented in a prominent tab stack. If screenshots aren't enough, read on.

Verbose characteristics:

Navigating music is done through the artist filter in the left, chronial's coverflow (shelf) for album filter labeled "Album Wall", and automated playlists to the right of the striped playlist view ("all tracks", "recently added").
The quick search bar was put up top for keyword filter.
Admittedly, the recently added list is just a "recently modified" autoplaylist, but works well enough.

Playlists in general are added & removed with light-up hover buttons, located on the bottom right corner.

Last.fm stations are added via a "Lastfm Search" button directly beneath the playlists.

I probably spent the most time on the track info panel.

The screenshots show the panel's stop state, in which a blue glossy background is behind the "Just Push Play Fool!" message. While in the play state, you'll see a brighter background, with artist, album, year, title, and time info. While paused, you'd see the time bracket replaced by "(paused)".

The whole track info box functions as the "activate now playing" button. It just seemed very logical for me to do that.

From the components screenie, you'll see that scrobbling is included as well as ipod management. I confirm it works with ipod touch 2nd gen

The only additional font I installed to get this look was "Birth Of A Hero" for what you see in chronflow and pretty popup.

Lastly, if anyone likes my config and wants an fcl with instructions I'll be sure to post one up. (It was made with 1440x900 desktop resolution so keep that in mind). Some things will look disproportionate or out of place under different desktop resolutions.
